Derek Jeter’s Davis island home is getting a taller gate
It looks like the Yankees legend wants a little more privacy when it comes to his Tampa house. Derek Jeter has applied for and gotten approval for a new gate that will be taller and will prevent people from looking through it into his property. This request is pretty common for people installing gates into back yards or other areas where they may want some privacy. There are a number of different options to make this happen, The story from the Tampa Bay Times indicates they will use a solid metal plate to cover the gaps between the pickets. Other options that we have used include PVC wood grain boards to obscure the opening, a louvered metal system, or a combination of wood and acrylic panel. Regardless of the gate construction one thing to be careful of is the increased loads associated with the opaque gate even small gates especially near the water can receive wind loads that can quickly cause problems if everything is not accounted for.
