Gate Tech Inc. was originally started as Pelham Fence back in 1983 by Leon Pelham. A few years earlier Leon would, for some extra money for raising his three boys, purchase damaged fence from a local chain link manufacturing plant. Leon would repair damaged and snagged sections and resell the fence to other locals. Soon people began to request that he install the fence and Pelham fence was born.
Leon’s new fence company was growing and began to require enough time from him to have to leave his job at the local bank. Mike, one of his sons, would help his father with fencing jobs when he was available. Soon with Mike’s welding ability and the growing demand Pelham fence began producing custom gates. (Mike’s first set of custom ornamental gates still hang on the shores of Lake Thonotosassa)
Leon decided to retire and at the same time Mike’s job was being moved to Tampa which provided the perfect opportunity for Mike to purchase the business from his father and begin to take the company in a new direction.
Unhappy with the gate operators at the time Pelham fence took a high tech turn, in 1993 Gate Tech was formed to manufacture a brand new state of the art gate opener.
